2 Infinitive Base form of a verb tense – simple present. e.g. go, went. Gone. Comes after the main verb E.g. He went to buy a car. Main verb infinitive

3 Most infinitives comes after “to” e.g. I went to open the door. He ordered me to sit down. She asked him to post the letter.

4 Always in simple present. e.g. He is going out to buy a car. He has gone out to buy a car. He will go out to buy a car. He was going out to buy a car. No matter how we change the verb tense of the main verb, the infinitive is always in simple present

5 Use of infinitives To give more information about the purpose of an action I went to open the door. He ordered me to sit down. She asked him to post the letter.

8 Bare infinitives Infinitives without “TO” When the main verbs are : LET, MAKE and HEAR, we don’t use “to” with an infinitive.
