3 Attention Getting Techniques: Must relate to the topic. A shocking statistic (must be credible) A quote from a credible source A reference to current or historical events Visual image- the use of imagery to create a mental picture in the audience’s mind

9 4. Pro-Con Organization- Main points are divided into the pros and cons of an issue Topic: Should mandatory drug testing be implemented in America's public schools? 1. Arguments for mandatory drug testing 2. Arguments against mandatory drug testing

10 5. Status/Significance Organization- This topic division works best for informative topics asking who someone is. Topic: Who is Colin Powell? 1. Status A. Background B. Career 2. Secretary of State A. First African American B. Foreign Policy Positions C. Accomplishments

11 6. Problem-Solution Organization- This topic division sets up a specific problem and presents a clear solution Topic: How can the US best meet the need of the poor? 1. Problems of the poor A.
