1 Secret Code Activity Directions: 1)Problem sheets are posted around the room – you will be assigned a place to start and will complete all of the problems in any order you choose. 2)You and your partner will work together to complete this activity, but each person will complete their own activity sheet. 3)Open the QR Scanner App on the IPAD. 4)Copy the problem in the appropriate numbered spot on your activity sheet. 5)Solve each problem in the space provided – be sure to show all of your work. 6)Choose your answer from the multiple choice options given. 7)Use the iPAD to scan the QR Code next to your answer. It will give you part of the Secret Code. Write it in the appropriate space on your activity sheet. 8)After you finish all of the problems, transfer all parts of the Secret Code into the Code Breaker Section on the back. 9)If your Secret Code does not make sense it means you made a mistake. Discuss with your partner, the part(s) of the Code that you think are incorrect and go back with your partner and re-work the problem(s) to correct your mistake. Scan the QR Code next to the new answer and replace the incorrect part of the Secret Code with the new part of the code. 10)Once you have successfully solved all 12 problems and broken the Secret Code, turn in your activity sheet. Students will solve multi-step equations with variables on both sides, then self-check by using the IPAD and Secret Code This task uses: IPAD QR Scanner Codes QR Scanner App Calculator Learning Objective(s): TLW solve multi-step equations with variables on both sides. S SUBSTITUTION Technology acts a direct substitute, with no functional improvement

2 Self-Check Quiz 1.Open the internet using Chrome if you are using a computer, or the Glencoe App if you are using an IPAD. The web address is www.connected.mcgraw-hill.com. 2.Login with your username and password. 3.Click on the purple math book icon. 4.Click “menu” in the upper left hand corner. 5.Click “Resources” 6.In the drop-down box, select Chapter 2, Lesson 4. 5.Click on the CHECK. 6.Select the Self-Check Quiz. 7.Answer all of the questions, then click “check.” 8.Email the results to me. Students will use the Glencoe App to take a Self-Check Quiz, then email results. This task uses: Glencoe Self Check Quiz – IPAD App or Computer to access on-line tools. Glencoe on-line resources. Learning Objective(s): TLW use on-line tools to take a Self-Check quiz solving equations with variables on both sides, then email results to teacher. A AUGMENTATION Technology acts as a direct tool for substitution with some functional improvement.

3 Discussion Board 1.Open the internet using Chrome if you are using a computer, or the Glencoe App if you are using an IPAD. The web address is www.connected.mcgraw-hill.com. 2.Login with your username and password. 3.Click on the purple math book icon. 4.Click “menu” in the upper left hand corner. 5.Click “Resources” 6.In the drop-down box, select Chapter 2, Lesson 4. 5.Click on the Geometer’s Sketchpad. 6.Select the Geometer’s Sketchpad icon on the right. 7.Read and work through the interactive presentation. When you are finished, log off and log on to Blackboard. Go to the Discussion Board and answer/discuss the following: 8.The presentation showed how equations are related to a scale. What other ideas and/or concepts (back to 1 st grade) can you think of that use this same concept? List as many as you can think of and be sure to explain why you chose each one. 9.Respond to at least 2 other students’ posts. In this activity, students will go through an interactive math presentation and then answer questions and respond to other student’s posts on the Blackboard Discussion Board. This task uses: IPAD and/or Computer Glencoe app Blackboard Discussion Board Learning Objective(s): TLW: Use the Glencoe app to go through an interactive math presentation and then answer questions and respond to other student’s posts on the Blackboard Discussion Board. M MODIFICATION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable

4 ShowMe Word Problems Students are divided into groups of 4 for this activity. The chosen group leader will guide the activity and discussions. 1.Each student is assigned 2 word problems. Work on your first problem, then exchange with the person next to you (either person). 2.Evaluate your partners work, then take turns giving feedback on the method used, accuracy, completeness, etc. Have your partner explain or “teach” you the problem from beginning to end. 3.After you have finished, work your second problem. Exchange papers with a different person and repeat the process. 4.After all problems have been completed and discussed, create your own word problem relating to a real life situation. 5.Once each group member has finished their problem, take turns presenting your word problem to the group. After each person has presented, the group will vote on which one they will use to create a “how-to” video using the SHOWME app. 6.Once your group has made a decision open the show me app and click “create show me”. The person whose problem was chosen will begin recording the “how-to” video using the showme hand writing and voice features. Each group member will add one part to the video. Be sure to save when finished. 7.Each group will present their video to the class and answer questions about their video. Students will work in a group to answer and evaluate word problems, create their own word problem relevant to real-life, then use the Show Me app to create an instructional video. This task uses: IPAD Showme app Learning Objective(s): TLW: create an instructional video showing how to solve equations with variables on both sides using the showme app. TLW: present their video to the class. R REDEFINITION Technology allows for the creation of new tasks that were previously not conceivable
