International Study Programs

Learn Six / Work Six is a wonderful program for our participating students to experience different cultures and the global hospitality and tourism markets. The program adds to our HTM curriculum a critical dimension of international hospitality and diversity education. Haemoon Oh, Ph.D. Professor and Head Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management Isenberg School of Management University of Massachusetts

The DCT student body is very diverse, giving the UMass Study Abroad students an easy introduction to peoples of many lands. It is with confidence that we offer our program each year, knowing that the staff and faculty at DCT will give us the support needed to make our student experience a success. Chris Roberts, Ph.D. Professor of Strategic Management Hospitality and Tourism Management Department Isenberg School of Management University of Massachusetts

As a professor, I had the opportunity to teach in classes where the students literally came from all over the world. When the semester finished, we all had a better appreciation of the differences and similarities among ourselves. Truly a rewarding experience! Robert H. Wilson, J.D. Professor of Finance, Real Estate and Law Hospitality and Tourism Management Department Isenberg School of Management University of Massachusetts

A challenging and rewarding experience awaits students who embark upon a journey to study abroad. This is an opportunity for both personal and academic growth as students learn in and out of the classroom. I highly recommend that students study abroad so they can gain a true global perspective. Dale Silva Assistant Professor, Advisor, International Hotel & Tourism Management The International Hotel School Johnson & Wales University

DCT has opened many doors for me. With the wealth of knowledge, courage and practical experience gained, I am ready to face the “real world”. Perumalpillai Mohandas Gandhi Thirukumara ADHM / BPS, 2009 DCT / Lynn University

DCT was the best study abroad experience I could have asked for. Teachers are fellow hospitality industry lovers who had real hands on professional industry experience. Anyone would have to be crazy to let an opportunity like this pass by. It’s worth it! Shannon Ayotte Learn 6/Work 6, 2008 UMass

The benefits of the program are endless. Jill Vest IGEHO, November 2007 Learn 6/Work 6, 2007 UMass DCT set me up for success in the hospitality industry.

I had the opportunity to study and immediately apply what I had learned into work, thus providing an obvious purpose and development of my knowledge. Small class sizes and experienced teachers offered me the opportunity to learn directly from their practices. Jill Vest IGEHO, November 2007 Learn 6/Work 6, 2007 UMass

Not only was I able to meet some of my best friends, get an amazing educational experience, and, well, live in Europe for a year, I was able to grow and face challenges that have prepared me for the future! Darius Shalforoosh Learn 6/Work 6, 2007 UMass

Human Resources practices in different countries, new trends in the hotel industry, or what we did this past weekend in German class. Darius Shalforoosh Learn 6/Work 6, 2007 UMass Professors were always professional and well-prepared for an invigorating discussion about different topics from …

Brett Dennis ZAGG, Gold Medal Winner September 2008 Learn 6/Work 6, 2008 UMass … amazing opportunities that I wouldn’t have had, if I had not participated in this program!

Liz Williams, Study Abroad, 2009, IUP I learned things from friends that I would not have experienced while studying at home. In coming to DCT, my preconceived notions about certain types of people have definitely changed.

Pete Christoffel, Study Abroad, 2009, IUP I strongly believe that an international experience is crucial to learning and growing as an individual. The number of people I have met from other countries with different cultures has opened my mind more than I imagined and I am grateful for it.

Rei Namikawa Learn 6/Work 6, 2008 UMass During the course of my studies at DCT, I was exposed to so many different cultures and I was able to expand my view more globally … … while gaining a pride and a consciousness of being Japanese, my own culture.

Rei Namikawa Learn 6/Work 6 2008 UMass The practical experience was amazing. It helped me to grow further on a personal and professional level.

Amit Kanoujia Learn 6/Work 6, ADECM, 2007 UMass The deep knowledge and understanding of the industry imbedded in the highly motivated and qualified faculty gave me hands on learning experience, an experience which not nearly enough hospitality schools around the world provide.

Eleanor Kramke, Switzerland Study Abroad, 2009 Johnson & Wales University Studying abroad in Switzerland at DCT was an amazing experience. Not only did DCT provide an excellent environment for learning, but they provided the perfect environment in order to foster personal growth. From friendly and accessible staff members to the simply amazing view – DCT truly made my “dreams come true”.
