2 Context: High level demand Lord Darzi (‘Our NHS, Our Future’): “Our approach to workforce planning … needs an overhaul” The Informatics Review: “by April 2009...…the Electronic Staff Record must be used to deliver workforce data” The Operating Framework for 2008/09: “from April 2008, the Data Warehouse fed from the Electronic Staff Record will increasingly be used for strategic workforce planning and monitoring purposes. Trusts should focus on workforce data quality”

3 Context: Working-level demand NHS managers asked for good information to help them manage performance and productivity “Benchmarking Service” requested by NHS stakeholders as a way of making data accessible and comparable

6 iView: What is it? An online service for making data more readily available to the NHS. Registered Users can: generate reports based on a common set of data access and extract data for their own needs drill down into areas of further interest compare performance with their peers The service: Is accessible via the web (with controlled access) Has a user-friendly interface Is free at the point of use

Currently ‘live’ and available to NHS staff: Monthly Workforce Data Annual Workforce Census for England, Wales Census is available on Stats Wales Estates and Facilities PCT Prescribing Kidney Care Patient Transport Child and Maternity Public Health Dental Activity Cancer (head and neck) Social Care
