SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 16 Additional Ways to Secure the Online Test Environment Close External User Applications Before launching the secure browser, or prior to administering the online tests, close all non-required applications on testing devices, such as word processors and web browsers. Student computers should not have Dual Monitors Students should not take online tests on computers connected to more than one monitor. Systems that use a dual monitor setup typically display an application on one screen while another application is accessible on the other screen. Disable Built-In Accessibility Features on iPads iPads include a built-in ”Speak Option“ accessibility feature that reads aloud selected text. Guided Access mode does not automatically block this feature. Before entering Guided Access mode, you should verify that only allowable accessibility features are enabled. To manage accessibility features, tap Settings > General > Accessibility. Disable Screen Savers and Timeout Features On all testing devices, be sure to disable any features that display a screen saver or log users out after a period of inactivity. If such features activate while a student is testing, the secure browser logs the student out of the test. TA Users Guide 45-46

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 17 Forbidden Application Detection When the secure browser launches, it checks for other applications running on the device. If it detects a forbidden application, it displays a message listing the offending application and prevents the student from testing. This also occurs if a forbidden application launches while the student is already in a test. In most cases, a detected forbidden application is a scheduled or background job, such as anti-virus scans or software updates. The best way to prevent forbidden applications from running during a test is to schedule such jobs outside of planned testing hours. Additional Ways to Secure the Online Test Environment (cont.)

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 18 Test Security Incidents: Improprieties, Irregularities, and Breaches Type Definition Impropriety An unusual circumstance that has a low impact on the individual or group of students who are testing and has a low to no risk of potentially affecting student performance on the test, test security, or test validity. These circumstances can be corrected and contained at the local level. An impropriety is reported to the District Test Coordinator (DC) and School Test Coordinator (SC) immediately and entered into the appeals module of TIDE if required. Irregularity An unusual circumstance that impacts an individual or group of students who are testing and may potentially affect student performance on the test, test security, or test validity. These circumstances can be corrected at the local level. An irregularity must be reported to the DC and SC immediately and entered into the appeals module of TIDE for resolution (should an appeal be required). Breach An event that poses a threat to the validity of the test. Examples may include such situations as a release of secure materials or a security/system risk. These circumstances have external implications for the Consortium and may result in a Consortium decision to remove the test item(s) from the available secure bank. A breach incident must be reported to the DC and SC immediately and entered in TIDE for resolution (should an appeal be required). Science TAM 16- 18

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 19 Test Security Incidents: Improprieties, Irregularities, and Breaches Type Examples Impropriety Student makes distracting gestures/sounds or talks during the test session, creating a disruption for other students. Student(s) leave the test room without authorization. Instructional materials related to the test are on walls during the test session. Irregularity Student provides answers to another student (e.g., passes notes, uses cell phone to share information.) Fire drill, power outage, or earthquake, takes place during testing. TA gives the wrong instructions and does not correct them before testing. Breach Teacher changes student responses or records at any time. Using the Summative test for practice instead of the Training or Practice Tests. Allowing students to take home printed test items, reading passages, writing prompts, or scratch paper Copying/discussing any secure test material, including test items, reading passages, writing prompts, or answer keys for instructional purposes. Sharing any secure test materials with the news media. Allowing media to observe a secure test administration. Posting any test materials on social media (Twitter, Facebook, etc.)

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 20 Test Security Reminder: Reporting a Perceived Error on a Test 1. During the assessment, make note of the perceived error. Include: subject, grade, test booklet form, and test question number. 2. Instruct students to do their best and complete that section of the assessment. Do not attempt to provide a remedy. If needed, OSPI will provide a remedy for all students in the state. 3. Complete a Test Question Ambiguity form: Test AMBIGUITY Form Test AMBIGUITY Form Deliver the completed form to your school and/or district test coordinator with your secure test materials. The District Test Coordinator will alert OSPI. 21 SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 21 TEST ADMINISTRATION CHECKLISTS Testing Conditions Classroom-sized groups are preferable – may reduce student test anxiety and assist the TA in monitoring testing. The test administration should be conducted in a secure environment Maintain a quiet testing environment throughout the session, recognizing that some students will finish more quickly than others. It is recommended that students remain in the room until the end of the test session. If students are allowed to leave the testing room when they finish, TAs must collect and account for all testing materials for that student prior to release. Students should understand the procedures for leaving without disrupting others and where they need to report once they leave. If students are expected to remain in the testing room until the end of the session, let them know what they can do after testing, such as reading a book. Science TAM 29- 30

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 22 PRIOR TO TESTING Please read the DFA carefully before administering the assessment. Ensure that a Testing—Do Not Disturb sign is posted The MSP Science consists of one session. Students must complete the session during the day in which they started it (unless they have an extended time accommodation).. S t udents may take as much time as they need to complete the MSP Science. Read and understand the school’s Test Security and Building Plan to accommodate students who need additional time. Science TAM 31

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 23 The directions provide for two breaks. Additional breaks may be provided based on student needs and Test Administrator judgment. Students who have not completed the assessment must be monitored during breaks and lunches. Before testing, establish a secure location for students to move all bags, purses, and electronics. For students who choose to use a calculator, Test Administrators must ensure that the calculator memory (if applicable) is cleared both before and after testing. Science TAM 31 PRIOR TO TESTING (CONT.)

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 24 All TAs should have login information for the Test Administration Interface. Each student must be correctly assigned to his or her district, school, and grade in TIDE. In addition to the correct school and grade, SCs and TAs should verify that all students have accurate test settings in TIDE, including designated supports and accommodations (embedded and non- embedded) for each content area prior to testing. Reminders: Before Starting TEST ADMINISTRATION Science TAM 30

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 25 Any changes to student test settings must be completed before the student starts to test. After an update is made, it may take up to 24 hours to appear in the Test Administration interface. Failure to correct test settings before testing could result in the student’s not being provided with the needed accommodations and/or designated supports at the time of testing. It is considered a testing irregularity if students test without the required accommodations and/or supports. Always keep in mind that student personal information, including their SSID, is confidential. If materials containing student personal information and/or SSIDs are distributed to students, these materials must be collected before the students leave the testing room and either securely stored to be used in a subsequent test session, when appropriate or shredded. CAUTIONS: Science TAM 30

SUCCESSFULLY PREPARING ALL STUDENTS FOR THEIR FUTURES 12033 SE 256 TH STREET, KENT, WA 98030 | WWW.KENT.K12.WA.US 26 DURING TESTING Do not paraphrase the written directions. Read the directions to students exactly – use a natural tone and manner. If you make a mistake in reading a direction, stop and say, “Listen again.” Then read the direction again. Never deviate from the directions as written -- this could lead to an irregularity. You may repeat any part of these directions as many times as needed. Science TAM 31
