2 Imagery zAn image is language that describes something that can be seen, heard, touched, tasted, or smelled. zThe images in a literary work are referred to, when considered together, as the work’s imagery.

3 Sight z The sun’s beams shimmered and danced on the ocean’s gentle waves.

4 Smell z The fragrant roses drifted through the room like elusive ghosts.

5 Sound z Although they could not see outside the cabin, they could hear the eerie tapping, tapping, tapping, of his knife upon their door.

6 Taste z The cheesecake’s exquisite flavor traveled from his tongue to his spine.

7 Touch z The icy breeze gently brushed against the hair on her neck, and goose-bumps shortly followed.
