2 Who We Are DCEO is Illinois’ Economic Development Agency Workforce Development is Crucial to Economic Development The Office of Employment and Training is DCEO’s Instrument for Workforce Development

3 What We Do The DCEO Office of Employment and Training Has These Goals: To create and retain opportunities to meet the needs of employers To cross train staff, reduce the skills gap, and help companies remain competitive. To expand career opportunities for youth and adults throughout the state.

4 What We Do Our Strategies To Achieve These Goals Include: Help employers remain competitive by developing a talent pipeline Provide training in high-growth industries including manufacturing, information technology, healthcare and transportation/distribution/logistics Directly link training with employers through work- based learning Offer flexible training opportunities that allow workers to earn as they learn.

5 What We Do All Of These Strategies Are Used In The Talent Pipeline Management Program

6 Why We’re Here To connect with businesses that need this training for their workforce To connect with organizations that can facilitate or provide skill upgrade training to these workers Industry & Business Associations Community Colleges Public-Private Partners Local Workforce Agencies

7 Our Message The Illinois Skills Upgrade Program has funds to help businesses train workers In order to better compete in a global economy Workers who need skill upgrades increase the business’ ability to compete for business Funds can pay for 50% of training costs for these workers (or even more, depending upon the size of the business)

8 Grant Opportunity DCEO will provide grants through this statewide program to help companies hire and retain workers in high-demand jobs Applications are due on February 27, 2015. Funding decisions will be made in the Spring.
