2 Joining the Race: Individuals interested in running for President must meet minimum qualifications: -Natural Born Citizen -35 years old -Resident in USA for 14 years Complete paper work to becoming a Presidential Nominee (current list below) http://www.fec.gov/press/resources/2016presidential_form2nm.shtml

3 Nomination process: Primaries -Election by ballot either in-person or by mail to nominate the candidate for President. -38 states hold Primaries Caucuses -Requires in person attendance where you group together and verbally cast vote for the candidate you want to nominate for President. -12 states hold Caucuses

4 The delegates: Each state is worth a certain number of delegates. Delegates count is based on state population: Republican candidates need to earn 1,237 Large state: California (172 delegates) Small state: Alaska (20) Democrat candidates need to earn 2,383 Large state: California (475 delegates) Small state: Alaska (16)

5 Democratic Candidates Hillary Clinton (Democrat) -Former Lawyer -Former First Lady for President Bill Clinton -Former Senator of New York -Former Secretary of State for President Barack Obama

6 Democratic Candidate Bernie Sanders (Democratic- Socialist) -Former Mayor in Vermont -Former member of US House of Representatives (Vermont) -Current Senator of Vermont

7 Republican Candidate Donald Trump -Business entrepreneur (The Trump Organization) -Land developer/Building design -Celebrity TV Host of “The Apprentice”

8 Republican Candidate Ted Cruz -Former Solicitor General for Texas (Supervises action by Government) -Current Senator from Texas

9 Republican Candidate Marco Rubio -Former Florida House of Representative member -Former Florida Speaker of the House -Current Senator from Florida

10 Republican Candidate John Kasich -Former Ohio State House of Representatives -Former Budget Committee Chair (President Bill Clinton) -Current Governor of Ohio
