VOLUNTEERING OPPORTUNITIES One way in which UCL’s museums and collections can help to improve student employability is by offering opportunities to student volunteers to gain hands-on experience of museum work

STUDENT RESEARCH PROJECTS Museums and their collections can provide novel and original research questions for undergraduate and postgraduate research students

USE UNIQUE COLLECTIONS TO SPARK NEW QUESTIONS AND DEVELOP STUDENTS’ INDEPENDENT RESEARCH SKILLS

OBJECT-BASED LEARNING Museums and collections help students’ to improve their employability through the object-based teaching that they support. Through focusing on museum objects, students learn in a hands-on, active and experiential way, which helps them to develop important transferrable skills in areas such as communication and team- working.

STUDENTS’ EXPERIENCES OF OBJECT-BASED LEARNING “Object Based Learning is more helpful than just standard textbook learning because you can actually see the shape, texture and real size of the specimens.” “Object-based learning Inspired me to do more independent learning.” “It is more interactive. You can discuss ideas and thoughts with other people on the group. It's fun!”
