9  Over the executive branch: override veto, impeach president, reject/approve treaties  Over the judicial branch: impeach judges

18  Original: authority to hear a case first  Appellate: authority to hear a case on appeal from a lower court.  Exclusive: the only court authorized to hear a case.  Concurrent: authority shared to hear a case

19  Federal district court: have original jurisdiction, only federal court with a trial by jury.  Circuit court: have appellate jurisdiction only over several states and have a panel of three judges to make sure rights weren’t violated by a lower court  Supreme court: can have original or appellate jurisdiction over the whole U.S.

20  Over legislative branch: can declare laws to be unconstitutional.  Over executive branch: can declare an act of the president unconstitutional
