6 Park View Education Centre is a semestered school. This means that we have two instructional terms during a year. Semester 1 September to end of January Semester 2February to end of June Four courses per semester Classes are one hour long.

8 Attendance Attendance is the biggest factor in determining success in high school. In a semester system, a missed day is more impactful.

9 High School Credit A credit is awarded when you pass a course. (50% or more).

10 Department of Education of Nova Scotia High School Diploma Requirements You must have a minimum of 18 credits. NO more than 7 grade 10 credits may be used. At least 5 credits must be at the grade 12 level. Graduation Requirements

11 Educational Requirements Students are responsible for ensuring that the courses selected meet: High School Diploma requirements for N.S. Entrance requirements for their post-secondary study. Personal academic abilities.

12 Planning your selection For 2013-14 all grade 10 students are required to select at least 8 courses.

25 Steps to Course Selection 1. Compulsory courses- note that more than one can be chosen in the areas of Fine Arts 2. Technology Courses 3. O2 Courses 4. Electives 5. Alternate 6. Student Support Programs 7. Signatures and Fees

26 Student Fees $40 fee covers the cost of the following: Accidental breakage Classroom supplies that exceed the PSP Student I.D. Card required for School events A Student Council Membership Fee A lock and locker ($100 family cap)

27 Fee Payment Options At the time of registration, you must pay your student fee. This year there are three options: Pay $40 yearly fee Pay $20 semester fee, pay the next $20 in February 2013 Pay $120 3-year fee and avoid any future raises in the student fee rate.
