3 What does the SAC do? School Accountability Committee Roles & Responsibilities

4 What does the SAC do? Inform, encourage, and provide opportunities for parent and community members to be involved in the planning and evaluation of the school’s instructional program and quality improvement process. Adopt the UIP (school improvement plan) Recommend priorities for spending school funds Monitor progress toward academic goals Safety issues relative to the school environment Community concerns and input regarding the above mentioned items Gather and provide information to the principal and DAC on needs or concerns of the school Advise principal in development of priority improvement or turnaround plan Report to community and board on the educational performance of the school Perform other duties as assigned by the board

5 Additional information about the SAC *It serves as a committee of the governing board and provides guidance in the areas of academics and safety *The SAC is able to review aggregate school data but not individual student data or data that has a small sample size to determine how the school is progressing toward academic goals

6 What the SAC does NOT do… Personnel issues, including hiring and evaluation of staff Individual student discipline issues Any issues dealing with a specific student, staff member, or parent

9 Baseline Data Only – New Test = New Data “These scores don’t provide an apples-to-apples comparison to old test scores,” Asp said. “The new tests measure different things – such as where students are in developing the critical-thinking and problem- solving skills outlined in the Colorado Academic Standards. We should all consider these scores as a new baseline from which we will measure the future success of Colorado students.” Interim Commissioner of Education Elliott Asp

15 MAP Growth Data Results Measures of Academic Progress Test is given 3 times per year Test is adaptive Comparisons can be made against national scores Test is given in math, reading, language arts (grammar only) and science Kindergarten and 1 st grade test scores were excluded since different test Growth represents difference between Fall and Spring mean scores Prior to 2015, ACS scores compared against 2011 national standard scores, new national standard scores presented in 2015
