2. WHAT IS PASSÉ COMPOSÉ?  Simple past tense  Composed of 2 parts: avoir ou etre + past participle  Completed, finished action in the past EX: I worked, they ate, we heard,etc

3. STEP ONE  Conjugate avoir in the present tense :  j’ainous avons  tu asvous avez  il/elle ails/elles ont

4. STEP 2  Change the ACTION (verb) to the past participle:  For –er verbs DROP –er, add é  For –ir verbs DROP –ir, add i  For –re verbs DROP –re, add u

5. EXEMPLES:  Parler- parlé  Choisir- choisi  Vendre- vendu

6. STEP 3  Put BOTH parts together to get the past tense:  j’ai parlé I spoke, talked  Tu as parlé you spoke, talked  Il/elle a parlé He/she spoke, talked  Nous avons parlé we spoke/talked  Vous avez parlé you spoke/talked  Ils/elles ont parlé they spoke/talked

7. ATTENTION!  You MUST write/say BOTH parts to make it past tense!  You MUST write é every time you have an –er verb or it is INCORRECT  Past participle never changes- only the form of avoir
