Spend Less Time on Homework And Still Do It Well Even though homework has its advantages, you probably don’t want to spend all your free time on it. There are ways to streamline doing homework without lowering it’s quality.

Keep Track of Assignments and Materials Homework Organizing Checklist The assignment is written down in a place where I can find it instantly I understand the assignment. I have everything I need at home (books, papers, and so on) to do the assignment. I have set priorities for my work. I will use in-school time for homework. I have planned enough time for homework. My desk is organized so I can get right to work when I sit down. I pack my completed assignments right away in a place that makes sure I’ll take them to school and hand them in.

Do Your Homework You need to plan to spend about 30 minutes for math homework daily. Then plan on spending about 15-20 minutes for all other subject per night. Once you are organized, set a timer for 15-20 minute. Really buckle down and concentrate until the timer goes off. Take a 5 minute break and then get back to work. If you need more time Try to start homework around the same time each day.

What if the homework seems too hard? Ask yourself the following questions: Was I listening when the teacher gave instructions? What did I write down? Do I understand the directions? Do I understand the material covered in the assignment? How can I break this assignment into more manageable chunks.? Do I have a buddy I can call to help me out? Do I need to go in for extra help in the morning?

Ideas to Make Homework More Fun Make flash cards. Play memory with someone in your family or have them quiz you on the words. Learn in chunks by dividing longer lists of things into smaller lists. Do the same with long term projects, Use a timer to see how fast you can complete your homework But make sure your work is accurate and neat! Make up a trivia game for science and social studies homework. Get together with classmates and invent homework assignments and test questions for each other. If your homework is too easy, talk to your teacher about reading ahead or doing special projects that you would be more interested in. Teach someone in your family what you learned or how to do math problems. If you can teach it, you understand it!

File Old Homework When you are finished with a unit of study, take the work out of your binder and/or folder and file it away at home. Keep file folders or hanging files at home to house your work. This will allow you to refer back to it if you need it as well as clearing out your binder for the next unit of work.

Summary Although homework seems like a chore, it has a useful purpose. Your performance on homework lets you and your teacher know how you are doing with the material. You have to organize your homework assignments and time. You have learned some techniques that will make your homework less time consuming and more fun.

The satisfaction of doing homework well and handing it in on time will be surpassed only by the good feelings you’ll get when this preparation results in improved test scores.
