What are the rules in this classroom? 1. Speak only for yourself and no one else. 2.Follow directions the first time they are given. 3.Follow all classroom policies and procedures. 4.Bring all books and necessary materials to class. 5.Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 6.Always act and speak in an appropriate way.

RESPECT Treating others the way you want to be treated. Showing kindness and consideration Liking yourself enough to be yourself. Accepting others for who they are. You will not always agree with one another but, it is so important to respect one another. Everyone has something to offer and it is all the different parts of us that will make this class work.

My responsibilities as your teacher: To treat you with respect, fairness and care as an individual. To provide you an orderly classroom environment where everyone can feel safe to share ideas. To provide the necessary discipline. To provide the appropriate motivation. To teach you the required content.

Your responsibilities as my student: To treat me with respect and care as an individual. To be cooperative and not disruptive. To learn and MASTER the required content.

NOT following the expectations will result in: CONSEQUENCES and TAKING RESPONSIBILITY for YOUR Choices and Actions!

Consequences (my definition) Each issue will be dealt with on an individual basis and you will find that the greater the issue the greater the consequence.

Why Do We Have Procedures? –To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. To cook a delicious meal, you need to follow the steps in the recipe. To place a call on your phone, you need to dial the number in the right order. –So, to be successful in learning, you need to follow some simple procedures.

Before you Enter If you need to bring your text book to class on any given day…I will have a sign on the door that says so. You must always have a writing utensil and your journals.

Entering the Classroom Get to your seat as quickly and quietly as possible See what the “Let’s Go!” assignment is for the day. Gather any and all materials you might need for class (this includes but is not limited to: your binder, novel, pen/pencil, free choice read)

At the Bell! Immediately Begin your “Let’s Go!” assignment!Immediately Begin your “Let’s Go!” assignment! Check the agenda for the rest of the day’s activities.Check the agenda for the rest of the day’s activities.

Tardy Procedures Place any tardy notes/excuses in the box on top of the turn-in bin. You may not enter without a note of some sort. Do not interrupt the class; we were all on time, it’s not our fault you are late. Get to your seat as quickly as possible and catch up to where we are. You may ask a neighbor to help catch you up as long as you don’t disrupt the entire room asking for assistance.

All Work Turned in Should: Have your name on it!!!! (All papers/assignments without a name go directly into the recycle bin!) Be in complete sentences (unless otherwise stated.) Be neat, clean and unwrinkled (not ripped out of a spiral notebook; unless otherwise stated!) Be full of ideas and done to the best of your ability. And placed in the turn-in folder for your class.

What now??? Whenever you finish an assignment or activity before the rest of us have had time to complete it you will get the opportunity to read silently. The most important thing is to not disrupt others from learning and getting their work done!

During Instruction Listen to the teacher with full attention! You will refrain from pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. Please, Please, Please ask questions! But, make sure they are relevant to the current topic. (Other questions which are not related to the topic can be asked after instruction.) After instruction, make sure you understand the concept! If not, Please, Please, Please ask questions! Have only English/Reading materials on your desk during class.

While You Are Working Make sure you read or listen to and understand the directions about your work. If you didn’t understand, Please, Please, Please, ask help from other students sitting around you. If they also don’t understand, ask the teacher to explain it. If you are asked to help, be polite and kind and offer your best. Talking should be no louder than a whisper; the person on the other side of the room should not be interrupted by your noise. Use your time wisely. Put forth your best effort to finish your work on time.

Before You Exit the Room We will continue until we reach a comfortable stopping point. I expect the respect of not having you pack up your belongings before class has been dismissed. Clean your desk/work area and take all garbage and recycling and put it in its appropriate place.

Exiting the Room I dismiss the class; not the bell, not you or your fellow classmates. Once you have received permission to leave with, “Have a nice day!” you may do so quietly, just as you entered the classroom.

After an EXCUSED Absence Please see the What did I miss? folder for the day you were absent.

Hall Passes/Breaks You will get 3 passes per quarter. Use them wisely because once they’re gone, they’re gone! As a reward, I will sometimes give extra hall- passes per quarter.

Moving Around the Room You are free to move about the classroom as long as it is for a specific purpose (Kleenex, trash-can, sharpener…etc.) In no way must your movement around the room be disruptive to the learning of your peers.

Materials If the marker is dead or the glue stick is gone/dried out THROW IT AWAY!! Do not put it back in the drawer…and, it’s not necessary to ask me before you throw it out…just do it!

Other Procedures There are several other procedures that we will use throughout the year. I will go over them on an as needed basis or we can create them together when the time comes.
