2 Ag Classes for Next Year Full year: PRINCIPLES OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD & NATURAL RESOURCES WILDLIFE, FISHERIES & ECOLOGY MANAGEMENT Semester: EQUINE SCIENCE* LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION* SMALL ANIMAL MANAGEMENT *New for next year!!

3 PRINCIPLES OF AGRICULTURE, FOOD & NATURAL RESOURCES This is the recommended class for incoming freshmen or first year agricultural students. This course addresses the broad spectrum of agricultural science/agribusiness. Students in this class will focus on the scope of world, national and local agricultural issues. This course includes instructional units in agriculture career development, leadership, good employee characteristics, entry requirements, industry expectations, communication, animal systems and plant systems. Students will experience and brief snap shot of what the entire agricultural field can offer them, by the end of the class they should have a basic knowledge of agriculture.

4 WILDLIFE, FISHERIES & ECOLOGY MANAGEMENT This course examines the management of game and non-game wildlife species, fish and ecological needs of the earth. We will study the history and importance of wildlife and natural resources management and conservation, as well as animal identification, careers in the wildlife industry, good leadership and employee characteristics, entry requirements, industry expectations, public aspects of wildlife and outdoor recreational management.

5 SMALL ANIMAL MANAGEMENT The small animals which may be included in the course of study are small mammals, amphibians, reptiles, avian, dogs and cats. We will study various careers, good leadership and employee characteristics, entry requirements, industry expectations and terms related to the small animal field. Students will experience and brief snap shot of what the entire small animal industry can offer them. By the end of the class they should have a basic knowledge of small animal care primarily focusing on dogs, cats and other popular pets.

6 EQUINE SCIENCE In this concentrated study of horses the topics that will be covered include: Equine industry careers, good leadership and employee characteristics, entry requirements, industry expectations, domestication, breeds, selection, uses, nutrition, reproduction, health, management, organ and other body systems, disease, illness, and other horse-related aspects of the agribusiness industry.

7 LIVESTOCK PRODUCTION Animal species to be addressed in this course may include, but are not limited to, beef cattle, dairy cattle, swine, sheep, goats, and poultry. We will touch on the following subjects; careers, the workplace, entry requirements, industry expectations, good leadership and employee characteristics, anatomy, nutrition, reproduction, disease, illness, breeds, selection, domestication and organ and other body systems.

11 To be a member you must: 1. Be enrolled in a least one Agricultural Science and Technology course during the school year; the course must include a supervised agricultural experience program, the objective of which is to gain experience in agriculture related careers. 2. Show an interest in the affairs of the Association by attending meetings, striving for degrees of membership, and participating in other organized activities of the chapter. 3. Pay all current District, Area, State and National dues by the date determined by the chapter. 4. Display conduct consistent with the ideals and purposes of the Texas FFA Association/Texas Association of Future Farmers of America.

12 FFA members conduct themselves at all times to be a credit to their organization, chapter, school, community and family. As an FFA member, I pledge to: 1) Develop my potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success. 2) Make a positive difference in the lives of others. 3) Dress neatly and appropriately for the occasion. 4) Respect the rights of others and their property. 5) Be courteous, honest and fair with others. 6) Communicate in an appropriate, purposeful and positive manner. 7) Demonstrate good sportsmanship by being modest in winning and generous in defeat. 8) Make myself aware of FFA programs and activities and be an active participant. 9) Conduct and value a supervised agricultural experience program. 10) Strive to establish and enhance my skills through agricultural education in order to enter a successful career. 11) Appreciate and promote diversity in our organization.
