1 FIVE PARAGRAPH ESSAY First paragraph introduces the thesis of the essay and directs us to the three main supporting details

2 The introductory paragraph is where the writer introduces the topic to the reader.
It is important to make this statement clear and limited. This is where the writer grabs the reader’s attention

3 A transition word Phrase
Between all paragraphs of the essay, there needs to be one of the following: A transition word Phrase

4 The body of the essay contains paragraphs two through four, which are similarly constructed.
Topic sentences are statements often in the original form, of the three supporting ideas presented in the first paragraph.

5 Subtopic The subtopic of each of the body paragraphs is again supported by three or more supporting sentences. These confirm in the reader’s mind the relevancy and relationship of each of the subtopics to the thesis statement.

6 Summary Paragraph It is important to restate the thesis and three supporting ideas in an original and powerful manner (this is the last chance to convince the reader of the validity of the information presented).

7 Summary Purpose Due to the first and fifth paragraph being so similar that some writers construct them at the same time. They will edit them as necessary, just as they do every part of the essay.
