2. Learning to read as an adult, in a second language, is challenging! The following series of PowerPoints was created using the latest ELA research and may have some tips to help you read and comprehend more successfully. I have included many resources and multiple slides. Several in each section are very similar. Use what you need and do not mind the order I put them in. This is only to refresh your memory. 5. There are two types of literary types or genres: * fiction (not true) * non-fiction (true)

6. First, decide if a text is non-fiction (true) or fiction (not true). (What is the genre?)

7. How do you do that? 1. Look at the text. A. Will you learn something new? (non-fiction) or B. Will you be entertained? (fiction)
