On October 6, 2005, Education Minister Gerard Kennedy announced that every elementary student will take part in a minimum of 20 minutes of daily physical activity as part of the government's Healthy Schools Program.

Don’t our kids get enough physical activity??? After vigorous physical activity: –Intellectual function is improved… They learn better! –Attention span is increased… They listen longer!

20 Minutes a Day is All it Takes 20 minutes of vigorous physical activity is all that is needed to improve a child’s learning experience. Doesn’t that make it seem worthwhile?

What Does DPA Look Like? Any supervised activity that gets kids moving for 20 minutes These activities can be done in the school yard, the gym, the hallway or the classroom… as long as everyone is moving!

What can you do during DPA? Use a CD with guided dance steps Make up your own dance steps Jog or walk briskly around the school yard Lead a series of aerobic exercises Play a fast-paced, non-competitive game such as, DPA Snakes and Ladders, Pass the Bass, Rock- Paper-Scissors Conga, Motion Medley, etc……
