3 Purpose CATCH is a coordinated school health program between schools, families, and communities to work toward creating a healthy school environment.

6 Nutrition Education Teachers will be encouraged to integrate nutrition education across the curriculum. Staff will encourage students to bring healthy snacks and to participate in physical activity The Coordinated Approach to Child Health (CATCH) program will be in the following areas: Health, Physical Education and Nutrition.

7 Nutrition Education The school will offer breakfast and lunch and when applicable participate in the after school snack program. Our faculty will model healthy eating and appropriate lunch room conduct. The staff will promote and encourage safe eating practices, such as no sharing of food or drink. Review lunch menu with students daily and discuss health benefits. Assist students in developing the healthy practice of washing hands before eating. Send home monthly lunch calendar that includes healthy tips. Offer campus based nutrition classes for parents.

8 Physical Education Physical Education teachers will continue to monitor student wellness and promote health awareness. Students will be encouraged to walk, or do some type of physical activity everyday after school for 20 minutes. Implement CATCH physical education activities. Students grades 3-5 will complete the Fitness Gram Testing

9 Goals of Catch P.E. CATCH P. E. is designed to promote children’s enjoyment and participation in moderate to vigorous physical activity during P. E. classes, recess, extra- curricular activities, and recreation time.

10 Physical Activities at Home Examples of physical activities your child can do at home are: Walking (with a family member) Jogging (with a partner) Stair climbing (in the house or by the apartment) Playing games such as basketball and soccer Dancing to music Cycling
