Outcome: - List local, regional and national musicians or music organizations - Explain the contribution of music, musicians and the music industry to the economy of Canada

The first award ceremonies for the western part of Canada was first developed in 1995. This award ceremony was held in Alberta and took place during a week long festival called “All Indie Weekend”. In 1999 a new group formed called Prairie Music Alliance, and they held festivals such as “Prairie Music Week” which also included an award ceremony. The organization we see today in the west was formed in 2003 calling themselves the Western Music Alliances and hosts the West Coast Music Awards.

The Breakout Festival is held each year around the western part of Canada. Each year its held in a different city. The W.C.M.A’s happen the day after the two day festival and then the West Coast Music Industry Awards are held the day after the W.C.M.A’s This year the festival and award shows will be held in Winnipeg on October 2-5.

The Nominee must have lived in either Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, Yukon or Northwest Territories for six (6) consecutive months between January 1, 2013 and March 31, 2014.
