2 Prepositions  A preposition shows the relationship between a noun/pronoun to another word in the sentence  Prepositions indicate a relationship of:  location (above, below, next to, beside)  direction (down, toward)  association (as, without)

3 Prepositions  The dog sat in front of the dog house.  The dog sat in the grass.  The dog sniffed around the dog house.  The dog went into the dog house.

5 Practice – Find the preposition  All of the sandwiches are served with pickles.  We sat on the rocks by the river.  Paul could not choose between the two prizes.

7 Prepositional Phrases  Prepositional phrases:  Start with a preposition  Sometimes contain adjectives  Contain an object (noun or pronoun) at the end  Examples:  You can call (on Monday).  She wore a dress (with polka dots).  I went shopping (with my best friend).

8 Identify the prepositional phrase  All of the sandwiches are served with pickles.  We sat on the rocks by the river.  Paul could not choose between the two prizes.

9 Identify the prepositional phrase  All of the sandwiches are served (with pickles.)  We sat on the rocks (by the river.)  Paul could not choose (between the two prizes.)

10 Prepositional Phrases  A prepositional phrase includes a noun or pronoun called the object of the preposition (ootp)  Examples:  about the girl  near the shallow river  next to the crying baby  with my friend

11 Object of Prepositions (OOTP)  Each preposition is followed by one or more words called the object of the preposition  The OOTP will be a noun, pronoun, or a group of words functioning as a noun  How do you locate the OOTP?  Ask what? after the preposition  Our house would be white with tall trees around it.  All of the sandwiches are served with pickles.  We sat on the rocks by the river.

12 Practice  Identify the preposition and OOTP in each sentence.  Most of us stayed for the movie.  We congratulated the team on their victory.  I was searching for my keys all morning.  The treasure was found between the two trees.  The truck behind us is following too closely.
