2 Place Value Use standard, word, and expanded forms to represent numbers up to 1, 200 (2.2B) Examples: Standard form - just the number – 125 Word form – the number in words – one hundred, twenty – five Regular Expanded form – an addition equation that shows the number’s value for each place - 100+20+5= 125 Break Apart Expanded form – an addition equations that decomposes the number in parts – 60+40+10+10+5=125 Number Line form – using an open number line to place a number on a number line and show 10 less/more or 100 less/more. 105 115 125 135 145

3 Comparing Numbers use place value to compare and order whole numbers up to 1, 200 using comparative language, numbers, and symbols (>, <, or =) (2.2D) Vocabulary: Less than, Greater than, Equal to Hint: The alligator mouth always eats the biggest number. The tiny point eats the smaller number. Home practice: when you are at the store or restaurant, compare prices of items

4 Fractions Part of a whole, when the whole is divided into equal pieces explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fractional parts, the larger the part (2.3B) Home practice: pizza, graham crackers, sharing a whole with someone

5 Word problems Solve one-step and multi-step word problems involving addition and subtraction within 1000 using a variety of strategies based on place value, including algorithms (2.4C) Generate and solve problem situations for a given mathematical number sentence involving addition and subtraction of whole numbers within 1, 000 (2.4D) 21+132= Adding by place value, base ten blocks in 1 st semester Later, 2 nd semester, teach the algorithm 21 + 132 Make up problems with your child to solve when you are at different places, outside, or at sport events.

6 Geometry classify and sort three-dimensional solids, including spheres, cones, cylinders, rectangular prisms, including cubes as special rectangular prisms based on attributes using formal geometric language (2.8B) classify and sort polygons with 12 or fewer sides according to attributes, including identifying the number of sides and number of vertices (2.8C) Try to make it a game to find and identify shapes in everyday life! The next couple of slides show the different types of shapes we will learn. Try asking your child about shape attributes also. Shapes are everywhere.

14 Homework – per teacher Student takes home their homework box every night and return it everyday. Student practices the given flash cards every night for homework. Student logs their practice every night, should be at least 5 minutes every night. Parent/Guardian initial.
