2 Lesson Objectives I can compare and classify geometric solids. I can describe and classify polyhedrons according to their faces.

3 Mental Math I am a 5-digit number with a 7 in the thousands place, 6 in the tenths place, and 4 in all the other places. What number am I? 5 Math Message Follow-Up Differences between prisms and pyramids ALL relate to the BASE! A base of a solid is a “face.” Cylinders and prisms have 2 parallel sides Rectangular prisms have a special feature: any pair of parallel faces can be chosen as the base. Lets look at something similar: a hexagon block. Prisms and Pyramids are named after the shape of their base(s) Cones and pyramids have only one base each. Apex is the point at which all faces meet on a pyramid

7 Playing 3-D Sort  Look at the 3-D shape cards  Why do you the one figure is named a “truncated cone?”  Look at the property cards  What are the two types of property cards?

8 Algebraic Equations Expressions can be combined with relation symbols (=, ) to make number sentences. – X + 2 = 15 – 3y + 7 < 100 * These are called “Algebraic Equations” (number sentences that contain algebraic expressions)

9 Writing Algebraic Expressions Turn to pg. 341 & 342 in your journal. Let’s go over problem 1 Complete the statements on both pages with a partner. When you are finished, complete the “What’s My Rule” on pg. 343.

10 Independent Work On your own at a level 0, complete Math boxes on page 344. When you are finished, you may work on Study Link 10.3
