3 Today’s LessonSkill Development: Art@Booksin Today you will learn about fiber art using yarn to create your own unique scarf, headband, necklace or whatever you choose. Introduction to crochet, tapestry and weaving. Use of a new medium – wool / yarn. You will learn: To finger knit To create a design and execute into a 3D art piece. Finger Knitting - Scarf

4 What is Fiber art? Art@Booksin It refers to fine art whose material consists of fiber and other components such as fabric or yarn. It focuses on the materials as well as the artists manual labor (work) as parts of the works’ significance. There is a prioritization of aesthetic value over its use or utility. 5 How do we make yarn? Art@Booksin In order for the fiber to be made into cloth or clothing, it must be spun or twisted into a strand known as yarn. The strands can be dyed into many colors and then made into cloth by Knitting or crochet or weaving. Finger Knitting - Scarf

10 Rules for Yarn use: Art@Booksin One at a time. Take from end Don’t let it fall out of basket or onto table. When finished cut off leaving a loose section and label your piece Keep it neat – others have to use the materials! Finger Knitting - Scarf

11 Process: Art@Booksin Select your yarn. Begin weaving around fingers (over- under-over). Once you have 2 loops, gently push yarn to top of finger and pull through and repeat until you have your arm length as a scarf (or longer!) with yarn you choose.
