1. One of the symbols of Christmas is also the Christmas tree.

3.  They consider Christmas Eve day as the most significant day of the holiday, which is known as 'Stedry den' (The Generous Day).  The evening is called 'Stedry vecer' (The Generous Evening).  As in other countries, Slovaks attend the Midnight Mass in the church, sing carols and have dinner with their family, on their return.

4.  Everybody runs from the shop to the shop and look for some presents. We also send Christmas cards to our friends and relatives. Mothers make some sweets, usually vanilla rolls and Christmas cake.  Various fruits, like apples, oranges, pineapples, bananas, and nuts, and cakes are also prominent on this occasion.

5.  On Christmas Eve, in the morning, we decorate a Christmas tree with electric lights, little things made of straw, glass balls and some sweets and we put some presents under the tree. We don´t eat anything all day, but the Christmas Dinner is very rich.  We start the dinner with wafers with honey.The evening continued with cabbage soup or pea soup, potatoes salad or fillets or cabbage with potatoes with fried carp. During the dinner we drink some wine.

6. During Advent there are lots of preparations to be made for Christmas Carps are also sold on the streets from big tanks - carp is eaten in the main Christmas meal. For dinner the whole family should get together, no one is supposed to be on his own.

8. On the 2nd day of Christmas young people usually go out to dance.
