3. Daily routine Daily lessons in phonics, literacy and maths. Foundation subjects equivalent of 1 hour a week Cross curricular approach through topics At the moment the day is structured in a similar way to reception, but will gradually become more structured Outdoor Learning

4. Please make sure all your child’s clothing is NAMED. Please ensure coats are named too. Year 1 Blog is updated weekly and sent out every Thursday with AxiChat. Please check it for our learning topics and homework activities. Communication board outside

6. Reading Books Individual reading once a week Books are changed weekly, so please return them when your child has read to you. Please sign the reading record book so we know your child has read with you at home. Lending library – reading for pleasure!

7. PE PE twice a week – indoor and outdoor Please send children to school in PE kit on these days. No laces please! All long hair must be tied up and no jewellery is permitted

8. Handwriting policy – ladder letters, one armed robots, curly caterpillars and zig zag monster, daily practice Phonics – We practice phonics daily, and will undertake intervention groups for children who need extra practice or a top up. www.phonicsplay.co.uk has some great phonics games for your child to play. We are learning Phase 4 blend and Phase 5 sounds in Year 1, as well as recapping Phases 2 and 3 if required.

9. Show and Tell – Friday afternoons Please can items be topic related or a memento or photograph of a day out or trip. No toys please!

10. School Trips - We will be undertaking some trips this year and will need parent helpers. It would benefit us if you have DBS clearance to work with children.
