3.  30% of 1 st time Hispanic children in 1998 were proficient in reading.  Less than 19% of Hispanics were proficient in mathematics.  18% of ELL cannot demonstrate familiarity with conventions of print; knowing reading occurs left to right, top to bottom, etc.  Having parents that speak a language other than English in the home statically have been found to have achievement difficulties throughout their academic primary and secondary careers.

Considering a school year consist of 9 months, my research will initiate the first 9 weeks of school: 1.Parent Survey 2.Introduce students to class and school routines 3.Getting to know students 4.Observation 5.Formal assessment 6.Assign tasks based on strengths and intervention 7.Lesson & Review 8.Collect samples/Portfolio 9.Conclude-ending survey

9. What’s needed: Labeled shelves Books Pictures demonstrating behavior or actions Names of materials or areas Classroom rules with pictures for reinforcement

10.  Are the children learning?  Are the children socially ready to learn?  What do the children need to learn?

11. Understand that even with our best efforts some children will miss the mark, and we will not reach every parent. However, that is not our focus. Our focus is to expose and establish basic skills to ready children for future learning.
