Welcome Thank you for being here!

Your Student enrolled in AP classes because… They believe they have the academic ability They believe they have a strong work ethic They have been recommended by a teacher They are currently in an Honors or AP class and doing well

AP Information A 2008 study found that AP students had better four-year graduation rates than those who did not take AP More than 3,200 colleges and universities in the United States offer credit and/or advanced placement for qualifying AP scores Students who take longer to graduate from a public college or university typically pay between $8,000 and $19,000 for each additional year. Taking AP increases eligibility for scholarships and makes candidates more attractive to colleges.

AP BIOLOGY Instructor: Mrs. Padron Room: A231 Email: mpadron@hemetusd.org

Course Overview AP Biology is an introductory college-level biology course. Students cultivate their understanding of biology through inquiry- based investigations as they explore the following topics: evolution, cellular processes — energy and communication, genetics, information transfer, ecology, and interactions.

Recommended Preparation Successful completion of General Chemistry and General Biology

Laboratory Requirement This course requires that 25 percent of the instructional time will be spent in hands-on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply the science practices

AP CHEMISTRY Instructor: Mr. Mata Room: A245 Email: emata@hemetusd.org

Course Overview The AP Chemistry course provides students with a college-level foundation to support future advanced course work in chemistry. Students cultivate their understanding of chemistry through inquiry-based investigations, as they explore topics such as: atomic structure, intermolecular forces and bonding, chemical reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium.

Recommended Preparation Algebra 2 and General Chemistry

Laboratory Requirement This course requires that 25 percent of the instructional time provides students with opportunities to engage in laboratory investigations. This includes a minimum of 16 hands-on labs, at least six of which are inquiry based.

AP Physics 1  Instructor: Mr. Mathews  Room: A247  Email: smathews@hemetusd.org

Course Overview New course AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based, introductory college-level physics course. Students cultivate their understanding of Physics through inquiry-based investigations as they explore topics such as Newtonian mechanics (including rotational motion); work, energy, and power; mechanical waves and sound; and introductory, simple circuits.

Recommended Preparation Students should have successfully completed geometry and be concurrently taking Algebra II or higher course Although the Physics 1 course includes basic use of trigonometric functions, this understanding can be gained either in the concurrent math course or in the AP Physics 1 course itself.

Laboratory Requirement This course requires that 25 percent of the instructional time will be spent in hands-on laboratory work, with an emphasis on inquiry based investigations that provide students with opportunities to apply the science practices

Foreign Language Please Welcome Sarah Chapman

Math Please Welcome Donna Parker

AP Calculus AB & BC AP Statistics Instructors: Mr. Urquiza and Mrs. Gonzalez

Haiku Students will participate in weekly discussions, and be able to contact teacher for assistance via Haiku.
