10 HONORS and ADVANCED PLACEMENT COURSES What Honors courses are offered for Freshmen? – Geography H, Geometry H, Algebra 2 H, English 1 H, Biology H Why take an honors or AP course? – Students receive an extra grade point (i.e. B grade is weighted as an A) – Students can receive college credit for taking the AP exam and passing with a score of 3 or higher – Students are academically challenged to meet their abilities for advanced learning

11 CRITERIA FOR HONORS PLACEMENT Teacher approval is required Students need to complete an annual Honors Contract From signed by student and parent Students need to score advanced or proficient on their California Subject Test Completion of a summer assignment for certain honors courses – Summer assignments will be posted on THS website by grade level in May – Download an honors packet from the counseling website for more information
