7 Maldives Dear students, see the pictures attentively.  Read the passage silently and answer the following questions.

8 1.Where is the Maldives situated? 2.What is an atoll? 3.How many countries in the world are smaller than the Maldives in size? 4.When was Islam introduced in the Maldives? 5.What makes the Maldives an ideal place for the tourists? Answers: 1. The Maldives is an island in the Indian ocean. 2.A atoll is a ring-shaped coral reef or a string of closely spaced coral islands. 3. Sevens countries. 4. In the 12 th century AD, sailors from East Africa and Arab countries came to the Maldives. As a result the Maldivians who were originally Buddhists were converted to Sunni Islam. 5. The Maldives is famous as a tourist destination because of its enjoyable weather, heavenly beaches and lagoons, luxurious holiday resorts and peace-loving people.
