9 Science Week Challenge Answers 1.Answer: A Painted dogs are very good hunters they have a catch rate of 80% due to their excellent teamwork. 2.Answer: B Lions are very territorial and will use their roar to ward off potential threats. 3.Answer: A As soon as they are born they will latch onto their mum’s teat and can stay in the pouch up to 9 months. 4.Answer: A They will rub their tails with ‘smelly’ gland secretions and flick these at each other. 5.Answer: C Their fur is actually colourless but takes on the colours of the surrounding reflecting light. 6.Answer: C Due to a giraffes long neck they are unable to lay down for long so they will normally fall asleep standing up. 7.Answer: B Their long tongues can reach into anthills but they have to eat quickly or they might get stung! By moving their tongue at 160 times per a minute they can avoid being stung. They can eat approx. 30,000 ants in one day! 8.Answer: All of them! Amur Tigers are quite unlucky as even today humans continue to destroy their homes and hunt them. There are only approx. 400 Amur tigers left in the wild.
