11 Civilian Labor Force Data  Counts people by place of residence, not by place of work  The sum of employed and unemployed, age 16 years or older  Who are not members of the Armed Services and  Not in institutions such as prisons, mental hospitals, or nursing homes

12 Who in the Labor Force Are Employed?  Employed includes all individuals who have worked at least one hour for a wage or salary, were self- employed, or were working at least 15 unpaid hours in a family business or family farm during the week including the 12 th of the month.  Being on vacation, or other kinds of leave, or involved in a labor dispute also counts as employed.

13 Who in the Labor Force Are Unemployed?  Unemployed includes individuals who were not working but were able, available, and actively seeking work during the week including the 12 th of the month.  Also, those waiting to be recalled from a layoff or waiting to report to a new job within 30 days are included.

14 Unemployment Rate  Labor Force = Number Employed + Number Unemployed  Unemployment Rate = Number Unemployed / Labor Force

18 Industry Employment Data  Counts people by place of work, not by where they live.  Counts the number of jobs by industry and by geography.  The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) is used to categorize industries.
