7 Application Process Undergraduate qualifications take 3 years and are awarded with Honours. UK academic year is from October to June UCAS is the centralised application organisation for all universities in the UK. You will use UCAS for everything!

8 Step 1 Choose your course and university (Course Search UCAS website) Step 2 UCAS application - opening date for applications early September - closing date mid January or mid October for Oxbridge or medicine,dentistry or vet courses - Choose up to 5 courses -Year 12 results, Personal Statements (4000 words), References (2 academic, 1 general)

9 Step 3 UCAS send your application to your chosen universities/colleges. They tell UCAS if they can offer you a place. Offers – Conditional (pass exams, tests) - Unconditional Track the progress of your offer UCAS send you a Confirmation letter

10 Other things to consider Accommodation Costs – living expenses, course fees, travel, books (UCAS budget calculator) Scholarships

11 Studying in the USA USA universities are also referred to as colleges. University year starts in August and ends in May A Bachelor’s degree takes 4 years Law and Medicine are only offered as postgraduate Subject choices – Year 11 and 12 Generally a decentralised application process. The Common Application organisation does cover a large number of institutions.

12 Application Process Step 1 Research your options 12 – 18 months prior: - consider the state and what university or college - research university website for requirements - register and prepare for Admissions Tests eg SAT

13 Step 2 Complete your application 6 – 12 months prior - choose the institution and fill in the necessary online application - Academic Transcript (Year 9 – 12) - 3 letters of recommendation (2 Academic 1 General) - Personal statement/s - Application closing date is late December, offers made in March

14 Other things to consider Costs - top institutions approx $60 000 per year for tuition and room/board Visa Year 11 and 12 subject choices Sports scholarships
