3 Examples of Homeric epithets Wine-dark sea Rosy-fingered dawn The gray-eyed Goddess Athena

4 Homeric/Epic Simile An epic (also known as Homeric) simile is an extended comparison between something the audience would be familiar with, and something the audience could not have seen

5 An Example of Homeric Similes they lifted it, and rammed it deep in his crater eye, and I leaned on it/turning it as a shipwright turns a drill (pg 665, lines 376-378)

6 Now it’s your turn… 1. Get into pairs 2. Come up with 2 different epithets for your partner (they should do the same for you) 3. Choose your favorite epithet for yourself 4. This will be how you refer to yourself for the remainder of the unit
