1 1.Independently read the Connect Text Pea Island’s Forgotten Heroes. 2.Collaborate with your center partner on the following question: “How do Nathan's story in Storm Warriors and the information in Pea Island's Forgotten Heroes explore the topic of sea rescue?” 3. Think about the accounts of a rescue at sea provided in both texts. 4.Login to your center laptop and write a paragraph, using Microsoft Word, in which you discuss the 2 texts similarities and differences. Support your analysis with quotations and other evidence from both texts. Name and save your document to the desktop. Checklist: -Are your ideas clearly stated and organized? -Did you make conclusions based on the context of the passage? -Did you use details from the text to support your statements? 3 1.Complete both Storm Warriors and Pea Island’s Forgotten Heroes. 2.Remember that inferences involve drawing conclusions and making judgments based on facts and evidence. 3.Use your graphic organizer folder to fill in your inference map. 4.Write details and facts about the passage on the left of the chart, and the inferences based on those facts on the right. 5.Use Educreations or iMovie to explain your process of making an inference map. 6.Name and save your movie. Load your movie to the class “Storm Warriors” blog. View other videos. 7.Make another entry in the blog to vote for your favorite video. 4 1.Complete a paper stating the theme of the text as well as supporting details. 2.Use the iPad to FaceTime their education pal at the Natomas Charter school in Sacramento, California whom have completed the anchor text Pea Island’s Forgotten Heroes. 3.You and your pal will discuss the similarities and differences between the two texts. 4.Use a Venn diagram to create a visual image of the text comparison. 5.Lastly, create a portfolio with an illustration from the text, the Venn diagram, and a completed essay comparing and contrasting Storm Warriors and Pea Island’s Forgotten Heroes. You may use Keynote, iMovie or Educreations on the iPad. You may use PowerPoint or Educreations on the laptop. 6.Name and save your finished project. Load it on the class Blackboard site under “Storm Warrior Pals” discussion board. View and respond to one other student’s project.
