2 Background Information In the 1930s, women’s social structure had already begun to change. A loss in paid & unpaid servants required the____________________________. Statistic: By 1940- 90% of women were married, but only 15% of married women worked. After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the US entered WWII. Men went off to fight- jobs were left unattended & new jobs were being created w. wartime manufacturing (quadrupled in the 1 st year). A supply of workers had to be found quickly. Women had to be brought into the workforce & traditional values had to be overcome. The Department of Labor would create a campaign to change society’s traditional view of women & their roles.
