Global Marketing Welcome to Dell Repository Manager 2

Global Marketing What is Repository Manager? 3 Dell OpenManage Repository Manager (RM) is a productivity tool that assists in creating and managing update packages. Repository Manager allows you to create a custom repository of the specific updates that you want to deploy. Repository Manager allows you to create deployment tools using your custom repository. Repository Manager can compare between two repositories and show you the differences at both the bundle and component level. Repository Manager can create and manage repositories for Dell PowerEdge servers, select EquaLogic storage as well as Dell Optiplex/Lattitude/Precision Clients

Global Marketing Challenges with maintaining system updates 4 Customer Pain PointsDell Solution Difficult to find out what new updates are available. Repository Manager “Compare” feature allows comparison of two repositories Customers like to update their environment on their own schedule, not when server vendor posts updates. Server Update Utility (SUU) is released once a quarter. With Repository Manager you can create a custom SUU with the most currently available updates (Dell Update Packages, or DUP’s). Some downloads are very large. Customers must download multiple large segments, merge them into single DVD before updating server. The full SUU is over 7GB in size and has updates for all 8th Gen and greater servers on it. With Repository Manager you can create a repository that has the updates for just the servers you manage. Customers want to be able to create customized tools that are specific to their needs. With Repository Manager, user can create a variety of custom tools, such as a Custom SUU, Bootable ISO, Scripted Deployment Pack, or Raw Driver Packs. Not all customers are using Windows/RedHat/SuSE Operating Systems Repository Manager allows you to create a Bootable ISO that can be used to deploy updates independent of the OS (“Out-of-band”)

Global Marketing Why use Repository Manager? 5 Save time – Downloading all updates can take a long time – If instead, only necessary updates are downloaded, it reduces the size of the download and saves a significant amount of time Stay up to date, more easily – The “Compare” feature of RM enables users to compare a saved set of files against all the updates available on the Dell FTP site. Users can then download just those files that are relevant to their custom repository. Flexible Tools – Repository Manager enables the user to use files that have been saved to create a wide variety of update tools e.g. a custom SUU, Bootable ISO, Scripted file, Raw Driver Packs

Global Marketing What is New in Repository Manager v1.3 6 Customer Pain PointsDell Solution Comparing 2 catalogs is often difficult to figure out. Compare button is now easy to find, with wizards to guide you through the process. How big is the file I am saving?New for RM1.3 is the size of each component and bundle of components. This makes it easy to determine if the files will fit on the media prior to starting to save. Did the process I selected complete properly?New with RM1.3 is success/failure feedback after each process. With reasons for failure if any and recommendations to remedy. Finding files on the FTP site is confusingWith RM1.3 we have made it easy to find & download Power Edge Driver Maintenance Packs & USC Catalogs I am operating behind a firewall and need to have access to my SUU &/or DTK plugins. With RM1.3 you can download the SUU & DTK plugins and store them anywhere you want. And then point RM to those files instead of the Dell FTP site.

Global Marketing How does Repository Manager work? 7 Create a Repository – Select your systems from ftp.dell.com – Select your Operating System(s) – Select other filter options – Save the Repository – New with RM1.3 If you Want to manage your system by Operating System type just select PEDMP from the Driver Packs option and download – Currently Windows Server OS’s are supported Create tools using the saved Repository – Server Update Utility – Bootable ISO – Lightweight Deployment Script – Raw Driver Packs Compare the Repository – Select your Saved Repository and compare against the latest from ftp.dell.comftp.dell.com – With RM1.3 Comparing is easier then ever – Add any new or updated files to your Repository

Global Marketing Repository Manager – Frequently asked questions, p.1 of 4 10 What is the current version of Repository Manager? – The current version is v1.3 Where does RM get the information that it uses to create the initial repository? – RM pulls catalogs from the Dell ftp site. For your convenience RM can directly connect to the relevant catalogs on the Dell ftp site, so you don’t need to know where they are located. Do I have to run Repository Manager from a server? – No. Dell Repository Manager can be run from a desktop or laptop that is running Windows XP/Vista/Win7 operating system. – If you want to, you can run RM from any server using Windows Server operating system. – However, RM cannot be run on a system running Linux.

Global Marketing 11 Repository Manager – Frequently asked questions, p.2 of 4 What is Server Update Utility (SUU)? – SUU is a tool that allows user to view available updates, compares those to versions currently installed on the server, and provides option to apply selected updates. An SUU contains a collection of Dell Update Packages (DUPs) that can be applied as a group. Can RM work with Server Update Utility (SUU)? – Yes. RM can create a catalog of files that SUU can use. To make it easier, right from RM you can create a custom SUU that contains the SUU engine and a custom catalog. – If You have a SUU disk that you obtained as part of the OpenManage Subscription service, you can use the catalog that is part of that Can I deploy an update package from Repository Manager? – No. RM is a tool for creating a package of updates that can be used by an update tool such as SUU.

Global Marketing Repository Manager – Frequently asked questions, p.3 of 4 12 What generation of servers does Repository Manager (RM) support? – RM supports PowerEdge 8G, 9G, 10G and 11G servers. It will also support follow-on generations (12G, etc.) as those server generations come to market. Can RM be used to manage update catalogs from other vendors, like HP or IBM? – No I have created my own update tools for my servers, how can RM help me? – With RM you can save your output as a raw driver pack that contains just the INF files. – With RM you can save as a scriptable file. Dell provides a recommended script for you to use, however you can attach your own script if you want. – If your tool has been created to use DUPs, RM can save the output as a repository of DUPs that your tool can use.

Global Marketing Repository Manager – Frequently asked questions, p.4 of 4 13 I am using Solaris (or Ubuntu, Debian, etc…). How can RM help me? – With RM, you can create a bootable ISO image that you can use to install updates on your system. Once you create the bootable file you can reboot your system using it and deploy the updates accordingly. I am using VMWare, how can RM help me? – With RM, select the bundles for the system that you want to manage. Save those file using the Lightweight Deployment Script option. Then execute this file in the ESX service console. The script provided by Dell will run all the DUP and apply the updates.
