2  An adjective is a word that modifies, or describes, a noun or pronoun.  Adjectives are used to describe people, places, and things. Lesson 1-Adjectives

3  Adjectives can tell what kind, which one, or how many about something.  Example:  What Kind:  I like Klee’s colorful paintings.  Which One(s):  I saw those pictures in this museum.  How Many:  Kai admired several sculptures by one artist. Adjectives

4  Adjectives can come before or after the word they describe.  Example:  That picture shows three blue birds.  Klee’s paintings, colorful and strange, amuse me. Adjectives

5  A predicate adjective follows a linking verb and describes the subject.  Example:  The painting is excellent.  It looks old. Predicate Adjectives

6 Directions: Name the adjective(s) in each sentence and the noun or pronoun it describes. 1.We liked those paintings by Rousseau. 2.They are famous. 3.Several paintings show wild animals. 4.The animals live in a dense, tropical jungle. 5.That moon, bright and eerie, makes me shiver!
