Some store food for the plants (ex. carrots). –Root hairs increase the surface area so more water and nutrients can be absorbed. Two types of roots: fibrous roots and taproots. –Fibrous roots - several main roots that branch off to form a mass of roots (ex. grass, corn, and some trees). –Taproots - one large, main root with smaller roots branching off.
