2 Read & Reflect # 6 Scholar: What is the definition of Negotiation? Collaboration? Why are these two important skills to master? How can Negotiation/collaboration be helpful? Harmful? Why? Explain how collaboration and negotiation can help resolve conflict in your life, business, economically, and globally.

3 Definition Review Collaboration: The act of working together with one or more people in order to achieve something Negotiation: The reaching of an agreement through discussion and compromise; the tackling of a hard problem. Refusal: A declaration or an attitude of unwillingness to do or accept something.

4 Definition Questions Have you practiced these skills at some point in your life? Give an example How could you improve these skills? (answer for each of the definitions and give and example of each.)

5 Collaboration and Negotiation It is important to have an opportunity to apply these skills to reduce health risks. The leading cause of death for teens and young adults is car crashes. Teens face many distractions while in the car and these distractions can cause death or injuries. When people work together for a common goal, collaboration can be powerful skill and influence. The goal is for you to develop and practice two important health skills. (especially dealing with automobiles)

6 Group Matching Using the scissors given to you cut out the words on appendix 2 and appendix 3. Match the given factor with the percentage factor by gluing them next to each other on the poster given to you.

8 Motor Vehicle Accidents They are the leading cause of unintentional injuries for children, teenagers, and adults. Young People need to understand the risks of driving, so they can eliminate car accidents or refusal skills to avoid riding in an unsafe car. You should collaborate as a team, to encourage your peers to be safe drivers to overcome the leading cause of unintentional injuries.

9 Group Negotiation You will address teen driving and accidents by writing a position statement. The statement should include the teams viewpoint, goal, supporting argument, and how collaboration, negotiation, and refusal skills were used to accomplish this. Use Appendix 4 and 5 and questions on the next slide of the power point to help you with your project.

10 Group Negotiation What are some driving risk factors teen drivers need to be aware of and/or eliminate while driving? Who should/will collaborate with your school and community? What steps might you follow to negotiate improvement of teen driving accidents?
