2 Statistics for Young Drivers Traffic crashes are the number one cause of death among children and young adults 16-year-olds are three times more likely to die in a motor vehicle crash than the average of all drivers In 2005, 23% of drivers ages 15 to 20 who died in motor vehicle crashes had a BAC of 0.08 g/dl or higher In 2006, 5,156 13 to 19-year-old drivers were involved in fatal crashes 20 percent of 11 th grade drivers reported at least one crash over the past year About 30% of crashes killing young drivers involve alcohol
