1 KIN 302 Professional Protocol Interview Preparation

2 Collect Information about the Company Status in the industry Company philosophy Type of products they sell Years in business Policies and procedures Location of headquarters Etc.

3 Develop a Perfect Resume and Cover Letter * Refer to Examples Take duplicate copies of your resume with you to the interview Have someone to read you cover letter and look over your resume.

4 The Perfect Resume Have a perfect resume and cover letter with no grammatical errors, spelling errors, or typographical mistakes. This is your way to get your foot in the door You are selling yourself Use action verbs in describing your duties and responsibilities on the job.

5 Resume Writing Tips Check Spelling, punctuation, and grammar Proof read and have other to read as well Organize information in logical fashion List addresses, job objective, education information, and work experience Keep it simple Have generous borders

6 Resume Use good quality paper (20 to 30 lb. rag content) Tailor the objective to the job you are seeking Use a simple, easy to read font Never Staple the resume Always have a header Include name and address on Reference Page

7 Obtain a List of Generic Questions That Might Be Asked During the Interview What do you know about our company? Tell me about yourself. How would you describe your work style? Why do you think that we should hire you? What are your strengths/weaknesses? What accomplishments are you most proud of?

8 Generic Questions Where do you plan to be in five or 10 years? What are your salary expectations? How would your co-workers describe you? Are you willing to re-locate?

9 Questions for PT School Tell me about yourself. Tell the characteristics of the PT you observed. The positives and negatives of the Universal Health Care system are… If you were on the committee trying to get Universal Health Care in your facility, what would be your first step in getting it?

10 Continued Why do you want to be a Physical Therapist? What was your favorite community service project and why? Why did you choose Kinesiology as your major? What are your alternative plans if you do not get in PT school?

11 Continued What do you do in your spare time? What class in college did you like the most and what class did you like the least? Congressman Gaby Gifford has received a lot of press coverage. If you worked or Mrs. Gifford, what would you do to protect her privacy? The Smoke free legislation is before the legislators this week. If it passes, will that hurt the economy in Mississippi?

12 Plan a List of Questions to Ask During the Interview What are the goals and objectives that need to be accomplished in the next six months? Why do you work for this company? What is a typical day like on the job? Are there specific certifications, training, or experience that would benefit me in this position? (Question about salary expectations should be asked in the final interview.)

13 Plan Your Appearance Men Dark colored business suit White cotton shirt Lace up shoes Tie should be of conservative pattern and fall within the belt buckle. Shoes should match the belt. Only one ring per hand No strong colognes Facial hair is questionable

14 Plan Your Appearance Women Dark colored suit Light colored conservative shirt Pumps (2” heel) (Make sure that they are polished Women should wear hosiery of skin color. Women’s shoes should be color of skirt or darker Only one ring per hand No strong perfumes If long hair, pull it back

15 During the Interview Arrive 5 to 10 minutes early Walk in and introduce yourself and shake hands with everyone in the office. Always use good eye contact Repeat the interviewer’s name Wait to be asked to be seated. Sit in upright erect position (women do not cross legs)

16 During the Interview Make it a two-way conversation Demonstrate a level of confidence Allow some time to think about questions if you need to, before answering them Ask for clarification if you do not understand a question. Be warm, friendly and direct Be honest and do not exaggerate Show a genuine interest in the company

17 Closing the Interview Summarize your qualifications Thank the interviewer for his/her time Shake his hand and state his name Find out how they will notify you of who has received the job offer.

18 After the Interview Write a thank-you note within 24 hours. Write a correct rejection or acceptance letter. Examples
