10. Tennessee Teachers Are More Satisfied Teachers feel increasingly satisfied with working conditions at their schools. Nearly 8 out of 10 teachers report that teachers in their school are satisfied, like being there, and feel recognized for their work. Staffing data shows that the state’s ability to keep the overwhelming majority of teachers in the classroom year to year has remained consistent over time.

11. More Teachers Say They Feel Appreciated Teachers feel appreciated and they report opportunities for growth in their roles. Nearly 8 out of 10 teachers say that they feel appreciated for the job they are doing, a gain of five percentage points from the previous year. 87% of teachers report that teachers in their school are encouraged to participate in school leadership roles, a number that has stayed constant over the past two years.

12. Teachers Feel Comfortable Using Test Data Teachers feel increasingly comfortable using data from student tests to tailor their teaching to student needs. Nearly 8 out of 10 teachers say that they understand how to use standardized assessment results to improve their teaching Over half of teachers believe that these results help them to determine if their students have the skills required to meet state standards.

13. Teacher Say Evaluation Improves Instruction More teachers than ever before say the teacher evaluation system is improving their teaching. Over two-thirds of teachers say the process has helped them improve their teaching, up 14 percentage points since 2014 and 30 percentage points since 2012.

18. TNReady Goals 1. Provide students and teachers with an assessment that is aligned to the state’s rigorous math and ELA standards. 2. Provide better information to students, teachers, and parents about students’ readiness for postsecondary opportunities and the workforce. 3. Administer the test in an online format because online is the future.

21. TNReady Current Status The department made the decision to suspend all TNReady Part II testing for grades 3–8. Since all high schools have materials, high school testing will continue as planned. The state cancelled the contract with MI. The department is working with the state’s Central Procurement Office to expedite the process of determining a new, reliable vendor to score tests from this year and administer the test for next year.

24. OUR GOALS. Tennessee will continue rapid improvement and rank in the top half of states on the Report Card. MEASUREMENT Tennessee will rank in top half of states on 4 th and 8 th grade NAEP in 2019. 1 2 3 The average ACT score in Tennessee will be a 21, allowing more students to earn HOPE scholarships. MEASUREMENT The class of 2020 will be on track to achieve 55% postsecondary completion in six years. The majority of Tennessee high school graduates will earn a certificate, diploma, or degree. MEASUREMENT Tennessee will have an average public ACT composite score of 21 by 2020.
