Successful meeting of govt, NGO, academia, industry reps. 22 Aug 2014, IEEE-SA and Tsinghua University, School of Public Policy and Management, “Reducing Energy Consumption in an Era Climate Change.” The topic will be addressed from a technology policy perspective, including … o How can climate change impact energy needs? o Does increasing urbanization play a role? o How can policy makers help? o Can technical standards be used to help advance the needs of society in this area? o Electric vehicles: a case study in standardization 2

3 Technology Policy Education Fora (cont’d) Beijing event will be a half day, will bring together key stakeholders to share experiences and dialogue. Key speakers, a panel discussion, and a concluding session will be held. 2015, Budgeting for one forum in Africa In subsequent years, two per year 3

5 Standards Development Simulation Game The SEC, volunteer-developed Standards development simulation game is an important feature of the IEEE Standards University NIC proposal (going to the NIC in June). Further development refinement of the game is planned, including targeting for key demographics. Policymakers—current and future—should be on that list. 5

6 IEEE SIIT IEEE-SIIT (Standardization and Innovation in Information Technology) conferences aim at bringing together standardization researchers from different disciplines; IT- practitioners, policy makers, standards developers and users (administrations, companies, etc.) – that is, those who are interested in exchanging insights on standards and standardization, and appreciate the different angles and types of knowledge brought together. SIIT is expanding and improving in 2015. Policy education will be a good fit with SIIT. 6
