5 1° Conditional The 1° conditional is used to speculate about the future consequence of a specific event. If I do an MBA, I will improve my job possibilities. If our main competitor goes bankrupt, we will increase our market share.

6 A job interview Imagine the consequences of your actions before going to a job interview. If you know something about the company, you will be more confident. If you dress professionally, you will make a good impression. You will make a bad impression if you arrive late.

7 FORM If you know something about the company, you will be more confident. If + present simple, will + infinitive Notice the negative and question forms: If you don’t write down the address, you won’t remember it. Will you telephone the office if you are late?

10 2° conditional The 2° conditional refers to less probable situations. What would you do if you won the lottery? If I won the lottery, I would travel round the world. I wouldn’t take the job if it were in India.

11 Form If + past simple, would + infinitive. If I were you, I would(I’d) study English. Would you study Chinese if you were me?
