2. Monday, August 31st  Learning Target: I can define and identify allusion.  Focus question: When is your IR novel set? What are some clues from the novel that tell you when it is set?

3. What’s an allusion?  An allusion is any reference in a piece of literature to another literary work, history, work of art etc.

4. The World’s Best Known Lovers  The story of Cupid and Psyche is one of the most beautiful myths of the power of love and the necessity for trust in a true relationship. Psyche discovers that “Love cannot live where there is no trust.” She also learns that the soul can be purified by pain and suffering and that love, once lost can be regained if the lover is willing to pay the price.

19. Wednesday, September 2 nd  Learning Target: I can identify the mood of a text.  Focus question: What is the mood depicted by the author of your IR novel? What imagery does the author use to portray this mood? Give examples.

20. Tomorrow and Friday: Writing Conferences  Class both days will be in the Seminar Room.  One at a table.  Absolutely no talking. If you are talking, you go to ISAP. Period.  Conferences are one at a time. I (or another teacher) will sit down with you and go over rubric. You will take notes on Conference Sheet and ask questions.  Conference Sheet needs to be completed and turned in by the end of the day on Friday.

24. Thursday, September 3rd, 2015 Hello. Please sit down ONE AT A TABLE!!!!  Learning Target: I can determine the tone of a text.  Focus Question: What is the tone of your IR novel? What are -the author’s choice of words of positive and/or negative connotation that help you understand the tone? Today we will be conferencing. I will call you up one at a time. Please bring your binder with your conference sheet and a pencil. For the first 15 minutes of class time, I want you to work on your IR/focus question. For the remaining time, please pull out the packet we started yesterday on Landscape with a Fall of Icarus. This should be completed today.

Friday, September 4 th.  Learning Target: I can determine the tone of a text using connotation.  Focus question: Find a word from your IR novel that has a positive connotation, write it down and explain why it is positive.
