Section A – Period 1, Days 1-3-5 Section B – Period 5, Days 2-4-6 Section C – Period 8, Days 1-3-5

 Develop technical skills as they apply to playing the guitar.  Learn & apply correct terminology regarding the guitar.  Read & interpret traditional music notation, chord symbols, and tablature.  Open and expand your musical horizons  Enjoy the process of music making with your peers – and have FUN while doing it!

 Be prepared every day to play at the best of your ability.  Be engaged and ready to make music.  Treat yourself and each other with respect.  Listen to all instructions - but don’t be afraid to ask questions if you don’t understand!

 PENCIL  3-Ring Binder. Dedicate it ENTIRELY to this class. (1/2”, 1” is fine)  GUITAR…

 This will be a mixture of large group instruction, one-on-one work, and individual practice.  Combination of written & playing assignments will be used to help you progress through the curriculum

 We have a set here for everyone to be able to use.  There are enough for everyone to use one here at school.  They unfortunately are NOT able to go home with you.  YOU and two other people are responsible for the well-being of these instruments during class.

 LET ME KNOW ASAP if… ◦ Something is broken/cracked ◦ Something is missing ◦ The guitar is missing!  IF YOU BREAK A STRING….and you will. ◦ YOU are responsible for replacing it. Not the person after you.  Instrument Care Agreement

 This is a performance based class, and you are an active part of that!  50% - Summative Exams. This will include your daily class progress and short playing quizzes each quarter.  30% - Formative Exams. These will be longer playing tests and any performances that are scheduled.  20% - Homework.

 The only way to get better at your instrument is to PRACTICE – there is no shortcut.  In order to play guitar correctly, you are going to need to build up muscles in your hands and CALLUSES on your fingers.  Therefore, it is strongly encouraged that you obtain a guitar for your own personal use at home.  If you are looking at getting one, let’s talk about your options.

 The class itself is not entirely made of beginners.  We will start out with the basics for everyone so that we can all speak the same language.  After that, there are plenty of options for those of you that have some experience – including helping everyone else out!
