1 + My Introduction Khayyan Raheem EDU 684: Shared Vision of Learning Dr. Gary Breegle August 19, 2014

2 + Hello, my name is Khayyan Raheem I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I then moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan and got married. I have been married for 12 years. I have 5 sons, a 12, year old, 8-year old, 5 year old, 4 year old and a 1 year old. I have an Associates degree in Business and Computer science, and a Bachelors’ degree in Management Information Technology. I worked for Daimler Chrysler a few years as a Technical Support Analysis. Then I worked for Corporate Personnel as a Network Administrator/Human Resource Administrator. I have several years experience in Human Resources as well as Computer Technical Support. I enjoy reading, surfing the internet and watching movies. My Introduction

3 + When I made the decision to go back to school for my master’s I had planned on majoring in HR but before I could start, my husband and I along with my oldest son who was 2 at the time, decided to travel to Egypt to study Arabic. While in Egypt I was given the opportunity to teach English, Math, Science and Social Studies to Kindergarten Egyptians Students. I really enjoyed teaching the children and watching them progress and learn from me. This is when I decided I wanted to return to school for my master’s in Education. We have been living in Egypt for the past 9 years teaching English. After teaching for 2 years, I was given the position of Kindergarten (KG) Supervisor/Class teacher which gave me the opportunity to supervise and mentor the Kindergarten Teachers while learning at the same time. Working as the KG Supervisor and KG Class teacher it requires me to have certain skills and knowledge in order to perform my job effectively. I am responsible for developing effective lessons plans, creating and implementing curriculums that are conducive to teaching English as both a first and second language, as well as curriculums for Math, Science, SS and Health. At the same time, I promote general well-being and progress of all students. I have to be sure to provide effective communication with parents about student progress, conduct professional age appropriate appraisals and review individual student performances. I am currently pursuing my Masters of Arts in Education, specializing in School Leadership because it is my goal to increase my knowledge and skills with my experience needed to be a compassionate, enthusiastic, intelligent principle or school leader who will make a positive contribution to any school.

13 + Martin Luther King: He was a speaker who provided inspiration to a lot of people. Most popular among his inspirational speeches was the "I have a dream "speech. This speech brought a lot of people into taking action as King spoke with authority and was capable of mobilizing an entire country that shared his vision (Williger, 2007). I would like to emulate this style because I think effective leaders inspire those around them. They accomplish this through the vision they set forth. Their passion is contagious, and their energy is evident in everything they approach (Gabriel & Farmer, 2009). References Williger, D. 14 + A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others. He does not set out to be a leader, but becomes one by the equality of his actions and the integrity of his intent. —Douglas MacArthur
